Dave Groover was an early member of the club, a US Navy Viet Nam Vet who served aboard river patrol boats and survived many combat missions.

After discharge from the Navy he attended professional dive school and began a career as a professional diver.

Many of us remember dives on Great Lakes Wrecks from his tug the Arbutus.

Sadly Dave died in 1986 while on a treasure hunting expidition in the mountains of Ecuador trying to locate gold allegedly dumped in a  lake by ancient Incas.

Dave was a generous friend to us all loved by all who met him. We will miss him always.

In June 1976 Rex Slingsby lost 2 dive lights on the Ironsides in 120 feet off Grand Haven. In April 1981 Dave, Bill Johnson and Ross Lieffers were diving the Ironsides, Dave found one of the lost Ikelite lights, when Dave brought it up it still had some battery life after nearly 5 years on the bottom
